2011 President's Letter

With the start of a new Boys H.S. season upon us, I hope everyone is in good health and ready to go. With this being my last year as president, I would like to thank you for your support and help. I would especially like to thank the executive board for all their help, because without them, I would not have been able to accomplish the things we did.

1-BOCES: By now you should have received your schedule and returned them to BOCES. You cannot  return a game to BOCES by email. You must call BOCES on all turnbacks. If you have extra availability, email Laurie that you are open. She records the info and keeps a list of available officials in front of her. Please do not call BOCES for any reason unless you cannot cover a game. They are not there to give you directions to a school (buy a directory)or to answer any questions as to status of a game because of weather (call the school). They are very busy and they have only 2 people in the office. Do not visit BOCES without an appointment.

2-Yellow and Red cards: Bob Signoracci will not be doing the yellow card reports any longer. Officials were calling him at all hours when they were told to call before 9PM. All yellow cards will be reported to Tom Cully by email only!!!!!! Email address is tomvs2@aol.com or tomcully1@gmail.com. All cards must be reported within 48 hours of the game except red cards which have to be reported to Tom and BOCES by the day after the game. Failure to comply with this procedure will result in an Ethics Committee inquiry and a possible fine.

3-Rule Changes: The rules changes have been on our website www.nassaucountysoccerofficialsassociation.com for 3 months now and will be discussed at our Mandatory Rules Interpretation meeting on 8/30

4-Test: The test will be given on Sept. 6th at Island Trees H.S. 7:30PM.CLOSED BOOK!!!! Please bring a pencil. This is also a Mandatory meeting.

5-Forms: All forms are either on our website (game report, sportsmanship ballots etc or BOCES website (claim forms, late starts etc) Please download them.

6-Running test: For those who did not take running test in June, there will be a test given on August 30th, prior to our meeting at 6:30PM. A running test is needed if you would like to work Regional Playoff games which will be held in Nassau County this year. The state will accept a college running test.

7-Exceptional Seniors : The Nassau/Suffolk  H.S. Officials have taken over the Exceptional Seniors game. The game will be held on 11/26 at Dowling College. There will be 2 games plus a game between the Police and Firemen teams and covered by MSG Varsity. We will be using the 3 man system. If interested, contact Tom Cully.

8-Playoffs: To avoid any confusion, in order to work any playoff games, you must be a 3 year Varsity Official. You have to have been scheduled(not worked) 7 games. The first 2 rounds are done by rankings and subsequent rounds by coaches selection.

9-Meetings: All meetings will be held in the Island Trees H.S. cafeteria beginning 7:30 PM. Meeting dates are Tuesday 8/30 Rules (mandatory) Tuesday 9/6 test (mandatory) Tuesday 9/20 and Tuesday 10/11 (mandatory). All mandatory meetings must be attended.
